Cherry Court Project number 60!
The weeping Cherry Tree that gave Cherry Court its name, was first planted in 1975 on a Council section in the Main Street to mark Katikati’s centennial.
When construction work started for the development of Cherry Court the tree was carefully transplanted and the reinstated in Cherry Court in time for the official opening.
Due to the trees location, surroundings, and health when the latest work was complete it was unsuitable for a successful relocation. Therefore local sculpture Marcel Zwezerijnen was commissioned by a local “Ginger Group” to create a new cherry tree to take pride of place in Cherry Court.
The overall concept of the development was from local artist Pat Williams. As a result we have a wonderful, versatile, art space in the centre of NZ’s Mural Town, Katikati.
