Amazing display! What’s On this week? 18 March – 31 March
The Tauranga Porcelain Artists are presenting an exhibition of their style of art. There are displays of traditional work as well as more modern designs.
On some days there will be a Tauranga Porcelain Art member as an “Artist in Residence” where you can see the techniques used and be able to talk to the artist.
The Art of painting Porcelain goes back many centuries and lends itself to a variety of techniques and styles from Traditional to Contemporary.
The paints used are a mineral powder mixed with a medium to a workable consistency and can be applied by brush, sponge, pen etc. to china, bone china or porcelain and even glass. The piece is then fired in a Kiln to 800oC. Repeated firings are done to strengthen the colours and further detailing can be added between firings. Additions such as Texture, Gold, Platinum and Lustres are used to enhance the designs.
With the new materials available now it gives the art a whole new dimension using new techniques for the modern designs.
The gallery is located at The Arts Junction, 36 Main Road, Katikati. Open hours are 9am – 4pm weekdays and 10am – 2pm on the weekend ... See MoreSee Less
